English or Spanish?

Q: My mother became Christian since before I was born, but she only spoke Spanish and took us to a Spanish church. I grew up with English and Spanish being both languages I spoke. As I got older I stopped going to church, then my mom passed away and really didn’t learn anything else about the bible besides what they would teach us at sunday school or my mom taught me. I have never owned a bible, how do I know what bible is best for me, English or Spanish? A: If in USA, and English is your main language, use that. There's a lot of solid resources printed in English that's not in Spanish, that you can have access to here. So these are good benefits to do so.  Plus if you speak English you'd go to a diverse ethnicly mixed church which is English. So it's best to go with English, as US is a melting pot. If the church has outreaches in Spanish areas [to lead people to Christ, and help them into a Spanish church until they're proficient in English to transfer to a English...

Calming concerns on End times, death, & fear of not good enough

Q: I recently came to Christ. I started reading my bible and growing my relationship with Jesus, but I have this fear or worry of the end times and even the death of people I love. I know it sounds crazy but I just worry I’m not ‘good enough’. Any advice? A: None are good enough... that's why Jesus is who our trust is in; what He did to redeem us. 😊. We dont falsely trust in our goodness or righteousness, but in Jesus'. Make sure you grasp that, as it's the core of the Gospel .  Everyone dies, not one will die whose meant to be saved, before their saved. Just get equipped (and be faithful)  to share the Gospel . And read Scripture to know God more & be equipped to live holy , and faithfully serve Him.  Don't worry about the end times, (there's too much fearmongering about it by false teachers. Have peace about it; trusting God). When its time for us to go to Jesus, he will call us, whether at death or Rapture. If saved , your secure and He will take ...

Q: Tongues and filled with Holy Spirit

I’ve been praying for years to be filled with the Holy Spirit and feel as I haven’t. I see people praying in tongues and I’m unable to. Why ? I guess I’m confused because I see people who seem recently saved who are able to speak in tongues, and I’ve been praying for it and it hasn’t happened. Makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong. A: There are false churches with false teachings rampant in modern times.  The reason you are having this confusion and no peace is because 1. Tongues isn't a gift given today, and 2 if you obeyed the Gospel , the Holy Spirit who converted you resides in you from the moment of salvation. Further if they claim you have to speak in tongues to be saved, they're adding to the Gospel - and that's a false gospel that damns.  There are far too many who hold to beliefs (of those lies) online, but they are very decieved or just not God's people. Avoid them. Avoid those following false teachings and avoid churches that teach those false things, ...

Parent turning to faith, feels failed kids, & has Tongues Q. *

Q: My ex best friend married into a Charismatic denomination where they tell people who are saved, that "they are not saved if they did not have evidence of speaking in tongues". They became a stumbling block in my faith. I no longer feel as if I’ll ever be good enough because every time I would come to them with questions I had honestly just wanted to have a greater understanding they would mock me as if not to come to them about their God because I was obviously not saved? I was saved at 10years and grew up in my church. I now have four boys and haven’t attended church with them. I know this is my job to teach them and I will be held accountable. They would also tell me the road to heaven is narrow. I’m no denomination I grew up Baptist, I thought I had heard the lord and felt his love, but this has driven me so far from the Lord. I used to be very spiritual, but stopped. I just exist. I have never spoken in tongues…and honestly envy all who have. I also feel like why would...

Struggling w faith due to death and bad things

Q: I have a friend struggling with his faith.  He says he believes in God, but he’s also unsure because he can’t grasp why God “lets” bad things happen to good people. Like death of a family member, mental health issues, etc.  I tried sending him a few Bible verses from Proverbs and 😬🙁he felt attacked by what I sent.  How can I explain this to him in a way that will make him feel hopeful? I did tell him the reason bad things happen is because the devil exists and because all humans still sin no matter how religious we are.  He said he is willing to try to go to Church which is a hugeee step. A: First he has to have a basic grasp on reality, specifically the things of God and who God is. When he understands - that God created everything perfect, including people, [there's a lot to unpack on this topic, too big for here, but is learned over time from Scripture and your pastor, from eternity past to all of time, reasons for the testing and God's soverign plan and e...

What Bible version & tips for Christian living

Q: I’ve been tightening up my walk with Jesus again, and lately trying to study the Bible... but am having such a hard time choosing "which version" is best for me, and also is the TRUE word. I need what that will help me become closer to God. I’ve been looking into the NKJV & another, but grew up on the KJV and I’ve recently seen there SO many other versions and it’s so hard to know where to commit too.❤️. Thoughts?  A: It is great that you recognize the Bible is how we get closer to God, and walk in the Christian life.  NKJV is fine. In fact I have a solid study Bible in that version. It's more expensive than the NASB, but its fine. If price is a factor, I just recommend this one. 😊 I will note that KJV is very hard to read since it's not modern English, however the Scourby OT & NT download audiobible(1) is dramatized and wonderful for new believers, but the names are not the same as in modern language. Elias is Elijah, and Jeremiah and other names are ...

Where to start Reading Scripture

Q: Just got a Bible 😁📖, but don't know where to start reading. It does seem reasonable it would be in Genesis 😅, but should I start somewhere else? 🤔😊 A: The NLT is a starter Bible, helps people understand things simply, (sort of like a kids Bible) and it is also helpful if ESL or if you have lower reading comprehension. I used it as a newer growing believer, so it's fine. But moved on to a more accurate reputable version (NASB95) not long after. You should too. At least after reading through it 2 times. That way you grasp the basics of the info in each book. Then you can deeper dive with a more accurate reliable version to study deeper.  Heres a good place to start reading.  Gen 1-11, John, Romans, Ephesians.  After that read the Gospels, and then the whole NT. From there read Gen to Revelation cover to cover. Use an audiobible if needed (not usually available in NLT, but you can use NASB95 at biblegateway to help you thru the hard early books of the Bible).  F...

Submitting to Husband?

Q: I'm in agony. My husband hasn’t been faithful for practically our whole marriage (9rs). He stopped 2yrs ago but now its become him disrespecting and belittling me any chance he gets no matter who it’s in front of. I come second to last in his daily plans to future.  Just recently I became closer to God (about 2yrs) and I feel like that’s what’s helped open my love blinders and realize this is not what God wants for me in a marriage. I try to hold myself accountable bc I’m not perfect and although my friends and family appreciate the mother and woman I’m growing into it’s never enough for him. He love bombs me one week and tells me he can’t live without me but then the next week he’s telling me he doesn’t need me that I’m useless to him.  I’m a sahm to two girls under 5. Please pray for me I’m struggling to get out of bed or eat. Can you please help me see the future, bc I’m struggling spiritually, financially etc. A: If he isn't saved, this is just what unequally yoked spo...

Confused about the Trinity

Q: I have a perplexing question that needs clarity... My whole life I have always talked to God and Jesus separately. I never believed they are all one person because of the amount of times Jesus refers to himself as Gods Son. And God referring to him as his only son. So I've heard of the trinity recently. I've been confused about this.  So Christians typically believe God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus are all the same? That form basically into one? This does not make sense to me and I do not know if I believe this. This could be because I'm new & still starting out reading the Bible. But I've been led to believe that the trinity was something that didn't happen or was talked about until wayyyyyy after the Bible. I don't think I believe they're all one thing. Maybe my thoughts will change after I understand this better.  But I did always wonder why we pray to Jesus so much. Yes I do love him. Yes I think he deserves the recondition he gets for what he did, ...

Ministry to help those with gay thoughts?

Q: Is there a ministry to help people who have gay thoughts? I have a friend who won't be a Christian bc of this problem.  A: Wait, he won't be Christian because of sinful thoughts? Thats the nature and mindset of the unsaved, because they love their sin. We all need Jesus, so one benefit of salvation is he transforms us into a new creation, and gives us new desires, and right thinking. With the Holy Spirit and a righteous nature we can conquer any sin and live blessed by God.  If his issue is he wants "sin and God" then that won't work. God totally changes us so we have new and right desires. If he's avoiding because he loves sin, then he will never have victory over sins. Sinners can only sin and only desire sin, so ofc he won't want to be Christian, cuz he loves his sins.  His issues is a sin & identity and design issue that God will correct when he gets right with God; God will restore him to the right design and mindset, through Christ.  He doesn...

Relative passed, shocked prayer didn't heal her

Q: I’m not sure how to word this correctly, so please bear with me.. My family recently found out that my aunt was very sick, and she refused medical treatment… she went downhill very fast once sick, and she died this morning.. How do we accept that we asked God to heal someone & to pull them through something like this, but they still ended up passing? I feel in shock I guess, and I don’t understand why she had to pass..  Im new to my walk with God & I see so many passages about how if we ask Him for what he want/need, He will always provide.. but in this case it seems like he didn’t… if that makes sense? Can you clarify. A: First, condolences losing someone is hard, especially if you were close. But also cuz it affects the family 🫂. Because if the Fall in Eden there is suffering in the world. All are sinners so all die, we go out a myriad of ways. Rom 3:23 says the wages [what we earn] of sin is death. But the latter part goes on to speak of believers. Our end is differe...

Why such division over Church Music?

Q:  Q: I have recently started to go to Church again.  It is such a welcoming environment. Everyone is happy and feeling their faith through the music. But I don't know why people are negative about how other Churches are doing their worship. In my eyes if something isnt for you that's fine. Everyone can praise God in different ways. Whether thats more “formal” or not. Am I missing something?  A: Music issues & preferences fall into secondary issues, even if the church is not worshipping in Spirit and truth but using it as a ploy to lure people in or keep them there. Many sadly do that. Modern music that's concert like is more shunable because it usually means the leadership has embraced a modern marketing mentality than a biblical one. This has become fashionable in wishy washy churches since 2005/2010. On the ither hand, a biblically focused mindset about godly music means that even if deep theologically sound hymns and piano are used, they'll do it because it...

Interested in someone unsaved & open, but has health issues

Q: I was married for 31 years and my husband went home to be with Jesus. It been 2 years and I met someone who is not a non believer, who never had Jesus in his house growing up. When he was younger he had a NDE and was flat lined for 2 min, then resuscitated. He had heart surgery to install a defibrillator to restart his heart if it stops. How do i determine where he is at Spirtually? He never had church growing up and the defibrillator keeps him from being able to go to church, like a shut in. Is he held less accountable because of how his health effects him ? Anyone? Also, if if does affect him HOW does it effect him does? WHAT does that mean ?..  He's very VERY open to the Gospel, and clearly has fruit... I just wonder where Gid puts the accountability mark at... He did not have normal opportunities like others did. No church at home growing up. An abusive and terribly neglective Father who was too embarrassed to get his son, (my friend) any type of mental health help or thera...

Once Saved Always Saved?

Not everyone who claims to be saved is. Many in churches are false converts who embraced a false gospel so they could live as idolators; picking and choosing what they will accept from the Bible & about God and Jesus. They are idolatrous moralists. Those not saved will leave us, but it doesnt mean they can't be saved before they die.  Important points on OSAS  Can a Christian lose salvation? First, the term Christian must be defined. A “Christian” is not a person who has said a prayer or walked down an aisle or been raised in a Christian family, nor one baptized as a baby nor one who is or was a church goer. While each of these things can be a part of the Christian experience, they are not what makes a Christian. A Christian is a person who has been born again by God, who has fully trusted in Jesus Christ as the only Savior, and therefore is a new creation who now possesses the Holy Spirit (John 3:16; Acts 16:31; Ephesians 2:8–9). So, with this definition in mind, can a ...

Music questions

Q: I’ve been struggling to let go of listening to secular music. I dont listen to rap or pop music anymore  but I find it so hard to stop listening to musicals and Disney soundtracks (I have a 3 year old and i like to show her the songs i grew up on). I’m a big musical girly I know all the broadway songs, la la land, you name it. I haven’t felt any conviction there but then again... I could just be ignoring it, I really don’t know. I know we’re not supposed to listen to secular music so I’m curious if you have any tips or can share how you stopped listening to secular music I would really appreciate it. A: It comes down to discernment and maturity in the faith.  As to the stuff you have shared/let your kids listen to, it's best to not guide them to that music, because it leads them from godly thinking, they're impressionable. Weed those out. It's far better for them to sing Scripture and hymns than worldly music, so you can educate them in the Word.  I think there could ...

Lukewarm & dealing w addiction and anger, & church importance

Q: I need help…for years I’ve been a “lukewarm” christian. I believe in God, read the Bible often, attend church, but...I struggle with addiction and anger. Somedays it feels as if it just follows me, like it’s attached to me? I always get this feeling as someones behind me. A: Our own temptation leads us astray whether Satan is proding it on or not. It's why we need to actively conquer temptations & sin, As we daily carry our cross wearing the armor of God.  Regarding addictions and anger these can help. *see also discontentment and depression as there's useful resources there related.  And for growing closer to God  and living in righteousness this can help  Dealing with Lukewarm issues Keep your spiritual fire burning For those in similar situation but stopped going to Church...the local Church is absolutely an essential place we need to be active at, member of, and center our life in the community there... as a believer.  It is vital.  Related A...

Drama and banning in Christian online groups

Q: Got banned from a faith related group. I’m not mad about it because I was going to leave it but it genuinely upset me because the owner started drama with her friend. It was all childish stuff because of groups on Facebook and having titles like admin and such. I just wanted a safe environment to go to and didn’t have one there even as part of the team. I guess I don’t understand how someone who says they’re a Christian can cause so much drama and be so rude to myself and others. I want to let go of it; really got to know some great people and I know she can be a good person but she’s lost her ways lately and battling with mental health. I want to let go of it so bad and forgive A: Not everyone who claims to be Christian is, just as not everyone who claims to be saved is.  Not everyone who is a believer is a mature one. New and weak believers cam be wrong both in their mindset, understanding, lack of knowledge, and their behavior.  The internet is full of fake believers and...

Why we come to Christ? Church discussion

Q: Why do we come to Christ? I had a discussion with the people that lead the Bible study at my Church, and they expressed that the sole reason people follow God's word is to evade hell. Additionally, they claimed that individuals only attempt to lead a righteous life because of judgment day, which will decide whether they go to hell or not. They also stated that if hell wasn’t the consequence of not following God, they wouldn’t care to follow him. I made sure to ask if they were referring to other people or themselves -and they said themselves. So my question is, is THAT really even giving your life to him? Just so you don’t go to hell? I’m considering a new church. I understand that’s 1 reason you would want to follow Him, but not the ONLY reason. A: We come to God because we are sinners, broken from the Fall, in need of restoration. The reason we come to Jesus for salvation is our desire to have righteousness. But we don't get that desire without God drawing and saving us. T...

Nervous or anxious to go to Church

Q: Im new to the faith and just starting to go to church and read the Bible. How do you feel about going to church? A few hours before, I always feel anxious and start shaking a lot. I feel like it's not my place. Tomorrow I'm going to church, and today I'm already nervous and wondering if I should really go. I don't know if this feeling comes from the devil to paralyze me, or if it is just me. I go to church alone and I think this also makes things worse, I don't have Christian friends who can go. A:First, you arent alone, God the trinity is with you. 😊😊 Second, Fear not. The great news is they local bible focused church is as close to Heaven as we can get on earth. It is a warm inviting, loving place where we gather together. People of all kinds, now in Christ.  🙏🏽2 Tim 1:7 says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” God does not give a fearful spirit or anxiety or depression… so who is sending these emo...

Struggling with & seeing sin everywhere in my life since saved

Q: Since I gave my life to Jesus, it feels like EVERYTHING I do is sinning. Watching movies ( even though I’m watching what I see) , playing video games ( again being careful what I play and how long I play ) etc . I talked about this with my grandma (she’s a follower of Christ as well ) and she said she felt the same way before too. She also said you still live your life like normal , but now you have Jesus making your number one priority and don’t do things you know he won’t agree on (sinning ) and are to live for him ( his will ) .   So I was wondering if this is a normal feeling you got when you were newly saved. I also was wondering if I can still play video games and watch movies and such ? ( I know I have to watch what I do for now on , but I just want to make sure ). Also... how to best take notes when studying the Bible ? And what’s your favorite book ? A: We are still trapped in this body stained by sin and can't fully escape it [till death], even if we kill and co...

End a childhood friendship, who are now atheists?

Q: I’m having a hard time ending a friendship. I have had this best friend since 5th grade and we are both now in our early thirties.  She married an atheist a few years ago and had seemingly become one herself. I have prayed for her and spoken to her about her beliefs and she just brushes me off about it. I have not been pushy about it.  I also am not a fan of her husband. I tolerate him because he loves her very well and I suppose they have a good marriage, but there is just something about him that rubs me the wrong way. The way he interacted with my children the one time I let them be around him raised my hackles. He seemed to be very outdone with them after just a few minutes and I got the feeling he was going to snap at them or spat them because he could not control his emotions. After getting that sense from him, I have never taken my children around him again. He also curses a lot and takes the Lord’s name in vain constantly. It’s just not something I’m interested in b...

Not good enough, lacking, sin concerns & Assurance

Q: Im a beliver, l've given my life to Jesus, go to church, have been baptised and preach Jesus. But my worldly truama sometimes is hard to fight, & fear that I’ll never be good enough to get into heaven. We all want to hear you’ve done well good and faithful servent. But being in this body stained by sin still, I still catch myself sinning, gossiping or judging. So sometimes that little seed of worrying of never being good enough sets in. Is it ever normal to have those thoughts or feelings? What advice & scripture would you reccomend to go to in these moments. Thanks. A: I am not sure what you mean by trauma ; we all live in a fallen world full of suffering and problems, but as we mature in Christ and grow in the Fruit of the Spirit , & understand and live out the Gospel in truth, then we can rightly deal with these issues biblically...and trust God in all circumstances. We don't let things tie us up in knots and prevent us moving forward.  As to the concern of...

Counseling - Adultery

This is a Fallen world and sin abounds. Even believers are not immune from it at times.  Adultery is grievous as it doesn't just harm the one sinning but also his body, his spouse, and your family, as well as extended family and even church. If he is a professing believer it also tarnished Christianity, and Christ.  God is in the restoration business, and in Christ there's hope, forgiveness, reconcilliation and restoration.  Seek this through biblical counseling , church discipline, godly men holding him accountable in the chyrch (perhaps in mens group and with the leaders) to help him live holy. Later, it can be a testimony to the church of miracles God can do, and many today deal with infidelity matters so it can give hope and direction for them too.  In counseling, they can separately address his sins and salvation. They'll address and help with both of your shortcomings, educate on communication for both of you, and a more godly way forward. They'll address any a...
