Why such division over Church Music?
Q: Q: I have recently started to go to Church again. It is such a welcoming environment. Everyone is happy and feeling their faith through the music. But I don't know why people are negative about how other Churches are doing their worship. In my eyes if something isnt for you that's fine. Everyone can praise God in different ways. Whether thats more “formal” or not. Am I missing something?
A: Music issues & preferences fall into secondary issues, even if the church is not worshipping in Spirit and truth but using it as a ploy to lure people in or keep them there. Many sadly do that. Modern music that's concert like is more shunable because it usually means the leadership has embraced a modern marketing mentality than a biblical one. This has become fashionable in wishy washy churches since 2005/2010. On the ither hand, a biblically focused mindset about godly music means that even if deep theologically sound hymns and piano are used, they'll do it because it's focused in Spirit and Truth, and to shepherd, educate and bless believers as we heartfeltly wholeheartedly focus on God not on us and our feelings. Truth matters not feelings. Feelings can be manipulated or manipulate others. Also modern music used in churches today are not theologically sound, babble on and over and over repeticiously, and are void of hardly any, if any, profound truth. It leaves a feel good feeling but is empty and void of both sound theology and true worship towards God. Plus, many raise hands in such congregations which many times have "look at me" vibes, vs true worship. God doesn't accept wrong or fake worship. This is why reclaiming proper biblical worship in churches is vital today. And far too many bad pastors are leading many churches away from true worship... for sinful ulterior motives; attention, numbers, tithes, fame, power, etc.
Another area most congregants are titally oblivious to, and is a danger, is we also have to look at the fact that most modern music done on stages or that are called praise music which are sung in churches, churches pay to use or sing those songs(!), which means if a cult, false church worship group or artist who has unbiblical views in essential or theological areas... your church is giving ots money to those people and organizations who then use it to become more popolular and grow larger crowds to their false teachings, through music or following them. This was never an issue before when churches sung hymns. Your church is not being good stewards of God's money and helping make people "twice the sons of hell" by using and promoting and platforming those songs in your church, normalizing it vs rejecting it. We must hold our church leadership accountable, and to Truth, and not embrace and propagate what's wicked or wrong. Why is the church funding them? It should not be happening.
Its more than about preference , for clarity Worship music here and also good study here on Worship & what it looks like.
So here you can see if the Church holds to the Essentials they're Christian, but they can be within Christian Liberty on some varied music issues, but must also consider the elderly in congregation too, who have hearing issues, wear hearing aids...and band music (and bag pipes) dont mix with hearing aids, as we are one body, thus we are not selfish minded pushing for modern music at Church. Also band music damages everyone's hearing and so blasting guitars and speakers is not good or godly. Worship music needs to be something we all do in unity together. Further, when the leaders are in gross error in the area of music (as noted), it needs to be addressed. There are serious implications and problems within all of these areas.
2. While it's wonderful to be in a solid Bible focused church where many saved people are found, and its true that it's as close to Heaven in Earth as we will get, theres the danger of thinking or getting an impression that Christian life is only happy happy with no problems; and we clearly see in NT and in believers lives that that is far from the truth. However, we do have joy and peace in the Lord because of our salvation. And we know He is always with us. And in the church, among the reseemed ones, we rejoice with the brethren together in unity and as one mind, in Christ. So there are things to consider here and also just like in the world there are unsaved people, so too are there among us in church those unsaved and those who are children of the devil who go about to cause problems and decieve... even those who get into leadership positions. So we have to be careful and use discernment so we arent decieved and have our faith shattered, or leave over church hurt.
This and this can explain more.
Hope this has helped. 😊
God bless
