Women in jobs?

Women in jobs

In the eyes of God, is it ok ....

I’m new to Christianity. I saw a social media post today wondering if a woman can be the head of the household, and all comments said it’s unbiblical. Don't want to change my career. Help!

A: Women are not the head of the home, the husband is. But we work together under his leadership.

Women are Ezer, a Suitable Partner/ Helpmate to men (Eve was the Ezer/Helpmate for Adam to till the ground)! Therefore, we are eligible to work and help our households! Only in recent modern times after the major wars did family split up and men go work outside the home. It wasnt that way for all of history. The family unit stayed together, worked together.

Men and women worked alongside each other at home at whatever trade they did whether farming, clothes dying, animal related, or blacksmith. It wasn't till industrial revolution around the War time that it began to become seperated, thus today most men (even those in church) have a wrong understanding on what a woman, wife, spouse role is. They view it from current culture... not Scripture.

Women in the Bible worked alongside men, and a few even took on roles that were unconventional for their time. A few examples are

There were two Hebrew nurses/ midwives - Exodus 1:15-22
Ruth worked in the field of Boaz alongside other women - Ruth 2
*Even women who were divorced, widowed, poor went out to work fields, or/ and gleen there too

Phoebe was a relied on servant at church, Romans 16:1-2, (she was also the messenger who delivered Paul’s letter)

 • Deborah (Judges 4-5) – A judge and military leader who led Israel to victory.

 • Jael (Judges 4:17-22) – She took down an enemy commander, showing courage and strategy.

 • Priscilla (Acts 18:1-3, 24-26) – helped her husband as tentmaker and teacher of theology, alongside her husband and together even instructing Apollos, a respected teacher/preacher.

 • Lydia (Acts 16:14-15) – A successful merchant businesswoman who dealt in purple cloth and was a key figure in the early church.

 • The Proverbs 31 Woman – Managed businesses, bought and sold land, and provided for her household. (Though she had servants to remove most of her workload at home).

God looks at the heart, not whether a job is traditionally culturally male or female. If He’s given you the skills and passion for your work, He can use you there!

As for headship in the home, the Bible does teach male leadership in marriage (Ephesians 5:23), but that doesn’t mean women can’t be strong & capable, or providers in broken situations [this world has far too many of due to sinful negligent men] ...until she [re]/marries. Many women, especially single moms or those with unbelieving husbands, take on the spiritual leadership roles in their homes while still honoring God by submitting to her husbands home leadership. There's a difference between Head of house leader and spiritual leader when your the solo parent or are in unequally yoked marriage. Hes not qualified to be the spiritual leader cuz hes not saved. The goal is to be married to a godly man and submit under his authority in both areas, but "as a partner" in love and by sacrificing and serving one another in proper ways that align to God's design.

Your husband is to be the provider in your family. If hes unsaved its unbalanced and you have to take on that burden, (like as Deborah did, to shame men). Unless your husband doesnt want you to work, so he can soley provide, you can keep your job, but you have other role and responsibilities on top of that as a wife at home. Until he mans up, no need to switch careers, God allowed or placed you there for a reason! Keep shining His light where you are, until he changes your path.

God bless
