Addressing coworkers Pagan interests in convos as a Christian
Dealing with pagan interests from coworkers or strangers in chit chat.
Q:
Today, a coworker asked me about my astrology sign. I don’t believe in astrology because of my Christian faith, but when she asked, I felt put on the spot and ended up saying "the sign" instead of telling her I don’t believe in it. I had planned to say that I don’t believe in it because of my faith in God, but I don’t know why I didn’t.
I eat lunch with some coworkers who are really nice to me, but today, I accidentally brought up some of my past. It wasn’t anything too bad, but I still feel like I should focus on moving forward, like Lot’s wife was told not to look back. Every time I think about my past, I start to feel bad and depressed... cuz the Lord saved me from that past, so I don’t want to bring up anything of it.
What advice can you share?
A: We are all growing in our faith, and are not perfect. We stumble and wish we had said something better. As long as we go to Gid in prayer about it, reflect on it and try to find ways to handle it better in the future, then that's growth. Sanctification takes a lifetime, but actively conquering sin and professing our faith is important. We have victory in Christ. 😊✨️✝️
Use your past as part of your testimony and not to dwell in detail. Heres an example of how to weave the Gospel into it and try to make a 3 minute and 5 minute version, you can hand them a tract too after the convo and let them know you're happy to discuss Christianity further over lunch if s/he would like to.
As to the earlier note, we've all botched it not knowing what to say. Here is a less offensive response and one that can lead to planting seeds of truth. Regardless remember, they'll dislike you if you live out your faith, but some will secretly admire you. Live as godly before them as you can.
You can respond:
1. "I understand the culture today has interest in those topics, but my Christian faith guides my understanding of the world in a different way."
2. I understand the culture today has interest in astrology or engrams but I dont participate in that because it doesn't align with my Christian faith."
If a bit bold for Christ, you could add to it and say,
*Have I ever shared with you how I became a Christian? I would be happy to share that at break or it over lunch?
Hope that helps.
God bless
