Unequally Yoked & Idolatry
Unequally Yoked
Q: My husband & I have been together for 13 years. I was saved in 8 months ago. My husband "believes in God and Jesus" but he doesn’t pray and has never been saved. He thinks if he forgives himself that’s good enough.
He has overcame a porn addiction and many other problems. He has grown as a loving husband and father and I’ve seen him improve in leaps and bounds but of course I yearn for a deeper spiritual connection where we pray for each other and worship the Lord together.
Any advice that can help me to do well to witness to him & live as a godly example?
Please pray that the Lord softens my husbands heart.
A: Will pray.
The big deception today (and misunderstanding among young believers) is assuming that anyone who is not saved is ok or ok with God. The person having "somekind" of belief in God or Jesus and not the true belief (which would then immediately be to follow him) is just same old Idolatry as it has always been. Unsaved love idolatry; they make a god to suit themselves. Even world religions have added or modified their religion to make room for a false Jesus. It is the same with any works based religion incl ones that claim to be Christian, and that includes modern cultural churches that exchange biblical truth for a lie. It is all sin and a crime against God.
If people understand the Holiness of God and the attributes of God, then understand who fallen humans are... the Gospel of Jesus (& full salvation offer) then becomes something they desperately grasp after, and have incredible gratitude towards God for it. And be radically changed at conversion.
The problem with idolators is they are sorta worse than Satan. He knows its all true having been in God's presence and still turned from Him. Unbelievers know the truth instinctively, and through the Scriptures, but because their love of sin, won't turn to get right with God.
God offers salvation to humans, and a new right nature(1), but Satan and fallen angels arent offered such.
We need to present clear picture of these truths so people can come to faith. Believers having the truth of Scripture well understood can be a great help in reaching our unsaved spouses. So I do pray we are all growing in that, and in the doctrines of Scripture and basic theology of salvation, to be able to do this, well.
I would recommend this New & Growing Believers resource. It will help guide you and help you mature in the faith well.
I am not sure if you are in a church yet, or if it is a biblical one. There is a resource in there to help explain the essentials a church needs to believe to be considered a Christian Church; which is the same as what any Christian needs to believe too. Theres also info in there on false teachers and false preachers to be aware of so you avoid them. They deny the biblical essentials and basic truths of Scripture which automatically makes them false, and among those spreading doctrines of demons, so avoid them totally (& any "Christian" who is following after them).
The resource also provides helps to find a biblical church near you. (And explains certian things you need to understand about church).
There are foundational basic courses in the link that can help not only teach you about the basics so you have a firm foundation for your faith, but also resources to help you learn other important areas of Scripture from showing false convert red flags, on assurance of salvation, permanence of salvation, helps to understand and help you conquer sins, to things like essentials to know about the Holy Spirit, of Christian living, even key secondary topics to grasp, plus areas such as how to read & study the Bible, find answers to varied questions, provides book resources, help you pray, deal with topics like suffering, has parenting helps, good helps for those in an unequally yoked marriage, marriage resources, and resources to help you get equipped to share the Gospel and answer others questions (as you go and obey the commission God gave us to do).
Bookmark that link so you can go there and take advantage of what is provided there (regularly until you've gone through it all). You will truly be blessed if you do! 🙂
God bless!

(1)sometimes the Redeemed are referred to as "restored" but since we never had it, [spiritual life and perfect righteousness] (Adam & Eve did), its simply noted as gaining a "new nature/new creation", having been "given spiritual life & Christ's righteousness" which we (descendants) never possessed before.
