Parent wants me to worship at home
Q: How do I explain to my mom that church on Sunday is important?
Her argument is “if they didn’t have churches back then then why do I have to go now. I can praise & worship and pray at home”.
I would love some thing reasonable to tell her.
A: Your mom doesnt sound saved, so sadly its likely she doesnt want her weekend bothered (to get up early & to drive you places). I am sorry to hear that she has a negative attitude towards your request. It also sounds like she has never had contact with Christianity (not been part of a church).
This might help in talking with her:
Christianity is a community faith not a solo faith. We do have our daily private time with God but we gather together as a congregation too. We are told by God to gather. There are many reasons we do so. (*see inside below link). And not going is disobedience to God.
We are to obey God over man. He wants us actively in the congregation.
120 met in a upper room of a rich man after the resurrection. Likely the same ones at the institution of the Lord's Supper with Jesus the night of his arrest. Those could not fit in a house that held 5 people, right?
620 people were disciples of Jesus. They could not fit in a house that held 5 people, right?
On the day of penticost 3,000 believed. So that large number of people didnt meet in a house where 5 people lived, right?
In the NT letters were written to the early Christian church in Rome (not RCC) and spoke of large numbers of believers in that city. Way more than 5,000. They all met at building of some kind. We know there was a place they gathered and the other churches as... there are literally "letters to the churches" in the NT.
If that doesnt help change her mind, then proceed here... If she doesnt want to change her weekend routine for you you can always call a bible based local church and the church will be glad to find reliable folk who can take you to and from church. Some are looking for a way to serve the believers at church, and this could very well be a way.
If someone is trying to dissuade you from going to a real church; a physical church building, they've got a Satanic demonic spirit leading them, & whispering to them - speaking in ways (through people) with the ulterior purpose of hoping that you give up the faith at some point, or stunt your faith to prevent growth for decades & to prevent your obedience to God. That isnt the attitude of someone who claims to love you. And humanly they do it so it doesnt disturb the life of sin they currently enjoy. You going to church simply reminds them about God and their accountability to Him; they dont like that. So they (in the satanic spirit) disuade you from church. And if young think they can control you - to squash that faith, trying to keep you from God.
Also in general the unsaved have no idea what Church is for, nor do they understand Church or Christianity.
If you need a ride to church because your parent or guardian (or spouse) wont take you, then contact a local biblical church and ask the pastor 1. If they have a shuttle service or 2. If he can find out what members live nearby you & have him contact them to see who can commit to regularly picking you up and bringing you to church, (and get a back up option too, for the times they cant bring you). Ask him to find out and get back to you asap so you can be relieved to know you have a ride to the church, and can start coming.
Find out the time the people can pick you up (so you are not late on them) nor to church. Be ready in advance.
When talking about that with the pastor find out which ones actively go to Sunday School (and pick those people to get you to and from church). Reading the Bible at home daily is expected but on Sunday you need more than a sermon, you need to be in Sunday school (and you can ask questions there too).
Here is a church search resource to help you locate a solid biblical one.
God bless. 🙂✝️
