Faltering faith & Q on why God allowed sin
Q: I am not a baby Christian or new to the faith. I’ve been a believer since childhood and a devoted follower of Christ for 20+ years. I love apologetics and have heard answers on what I’m wondering before. I am just going through a spiritually dry season and some of my original questions with the faith are sprouting out.
Why were we created in the first place knowing there would be a fallen world and much suffering in it? I’m not wondering why we have suffering. But more why are we even here in the first place with suffering? If God knows the complete story which is filled with horrendous events, albeit wonderful ones than why create in the first place? It can’t be because He was lonely. God was in perfect unity due to the Trinity. Was it for some experiment, some entertainment, desire to be worshipped by all? Was it altruistic reasons? Is it ultimately some reality tv show? I can go on because as I said I am in a drought as well as a season of skepticism and doubt.
This is causing much pain and lack of peace not knowing what my complete belief system is ultimately based on. I understand the story. I understand Jesus. I understand the books, evidence that comes in many formats.
It makes sense there is a greater being. But why this greater being? Why did He need to exist and why did He choose to exist? I hope none of this is triggering or the devil uses it for evil. I’m just hungry for others perspectives. Thank you.
A: God exists because he is the only one who is the ever living one. This God created us and all things.
Our belief system is based on truth. If you are having doubts you need to be looking at the reliable and historical truths about Christianity and the Bible to shore up your knowledge (and strengthen your faith).
Also God created us perfect and for His glory. To be image bearers and in fellowship with Him. Sin entered. Some wonderful points here are
* God knew Adam would sin
* Having a redemptive plan in advance and for working it out gave us two additional benefits/blessings:
1. Getting to know the attributes of God that we never wouldve known about him (the angels either). I recc this study on His attributes.
A W Pink explained it this way (in his book on God's attributes) in regard to Sin…
●Had sin never been permitted, how could the Justice of God have been displayed in punishing it?
●How could the Wisdom of God have been manifested in so wondrously overruling it?
●How could the Grace of God have been exhibited in pardoning it?
●How could the Power of God have been exercised in subduing it?
In Jonathan Edwards on “The End for Which God Created the World.” explained—because his goodness and other qualities are best expressed when there are creatures on which to bestow his many gifts and to display his many qualities. It’s sort of like an overflowing of his perfect qualities.
2. We believers will be given an eternal sin free body in eternity, after shedding this temporary fleshly one, when Jesus calls us home.
Hope this helps.
