Unequally yoked kid friendships

Q: Son friend is in a cult. His family
asked if our son could come to a activity at their temple. How do I say no?
---------

A: Do not lie. I'd simply say, "we're not comfortable with allowing our son to attend functions outside of our own church, but is there a chance the boys could do something else (the next day)?" But only add the latter if you are solid in understanding Scripture and the essentials of Christianity, and are intentionally trying to reach their family with the truth and gospel to their family. If not then there's no real reason to allow that friendship any further; it shouldnt have started. Redirect; your son needs to have solid Christian friends, made from within his church.

The Bible points to the disconnection between light and darkness, and protecting  children from what is described as darkness. We are to "Train your child up" in the biblical faith, "so he will not depart from it".

As believers, it's essential to adhere to the guidance outlined in the Bible. While being unkind is unacceptable, distancing oneself from darkness aligns with biblical teachings on how believers should conduct themselves.

Cults regularly utilize such events as opportunities to and sway peoples opinions, and lure them in. Hence, there's a chance for this youth to be influenced during the event.

I would also use this time to really educate your child on the essentials of Christianity from Scripture, and explain about false religions masqurading as Christian (from word faith to catholic & orthodox to cults). You also should include explaining what unequally yoked is and how it is applicable for friendships, relationships and business [partnerships]. Then guide him to befriend kids from inside his church (esp from families you know or a decon can direct you to whose parents are mature in the faith).

Here are a couple books to help educate him. Nutshell is small the Other is bigger and goes through essentials as well as targeted info about cults and other false religions.

Here is information on the Essentials

This is info for new and growing believers. It has studies on foundations and beginners discipleship that would also be very useful for your family.

God bless
