I am losing faith & am confused
Q: I was raised christian, but lately have been really struggling in my faith and feel like everything I do that pertains to my faith in God/Christ is forced. Everything feels like its being done out of obligation and not actual enjoyment in Gods word. I read my bible and notate it everyday and I pray and ask God for understanding but I just feel so lost honestly.
Then I cant bring myself to believe everything in the bible, like some of it just dont be making sense to me and is really confusing. Like this is a sin but it was written in context so it doesn't apply to us, oh but this is literal it still applies (honestly how can you even tell).
And then As a kid, the word of faith doctrine is generally preached (if you pray God will heal you, if you pray God will provide) so I see many people my age raised in the faith that leave because they see bad things happen or pray for something and nothing happens and question if Gods even real. I don't particularly need to question if the Lord's real or not, but i really feel like the basis of my faith or even me just coming to Christ in the first place was because of what he could do for me (healing me from depression, lust, helping me get a good job etc.) and I really dont know how to fix that.
A: Here are some resources to help you.
The word faith movement is a cult. And it focuses on selfish sinful desires. However Biblical Christianity from Scripture does show us how God is with us in this sin stained world of suffering, and how he helps us through it.
Many fall for a false gospel and come to Jesus for wrong reasons. We are to come to God to flee from judgment but also to desire righteousness.
As for solidifying your faith this will help.
It has a short and deep area so save this to your notes app so you can go through it all well. 🤗
Also, what you described is a lack of relationship - they taught you how to be self-seeking in your relating to Him and maybe even legalist rules based.
Simplify all of it.
“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”
Galatians 5:6
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12
“Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’fn
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40
“Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Romans 13:10
“ If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love…My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you…This is my command: Love each other.” John 15:10,12,17
“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” 2 John 1:6
The WAY to have a relationship with God is to stop being self-seeking because that focus keeps you from properly loving. Without living in love you’re not living in God (aka relationship) because God is love.
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
1 John 4:7-8
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3
It comes down to love. That’s how you can truly know Him and have the life that is truly living and fulfilling.
When it comes to sins, as you mentioned... it is about the moral law. God's righteous nature and character are reflected in the Law. As believers God enables us to live rightly, and as we grow in our faith (and read Scripture more) all those worries about the Bible go away.
If you are in a solid biblical church now, ask those questions to your Sunday School teacher [even over coffee or lunch after service] so you can gain clarity.
This might also be a help for you to clarify this much better
