How to get deeper in the Word

Q: How does one get deep in “the word”?
I’m reading the Bible, am a little over halfway through the OT, & have read John, Matthew, and Revelations in the NT, but I couldn’t quote any of it or discuss Christianity with a non believer.

This being my first read through Scripture, seems like a lot of densly packed events. Is the Bible supposed to be more life changing experience and getting to know God?

A: You will retain more over time.
The Scriptures are meant to change a believer inwardly more and more into a person of righteousness. It is a deep book and takes a lifetime to accomplish, but if you are birn again tje Holy Spirit will guide you as you read and aplly it so you will conform to and become more like Christ. This sanctification growth takes time. You are just at the beginning so give yourself some Grace and just keep plowing through it daily.

Here are some helpful ideas:
Reread the introduction to each book.

It is good to reread each book 3 or 4 times in a row.

Using a cheap paperback version...
While reading your 2nd or 3rd time through, highlight the most important verses that could be ones you memorize for in conversations, or for Christian living, ones that focus on the holiness of God, that point to Salvation and the Messiah, and righteousness, as well as the overall promises of God.

When you reread each book again, decide which verses should be memorized and put a star next to the verse # or use a { mark for multiple verses (in the margin)

From there, focus on what the Pastor preaches on during worship service and try to connect dots across all of Scripture. If your pastor doesnt preach verse by verse then these will be a great help to you.

1a. Series example Gospel of Mark
* There's one on John as well in playlist section. But most all the rest of the series and books are found archived at link #1.

*click a verse to open the "resources" button, for free studies on that topic or section ol& faq area.

4. Additionally this resource will also be of great help to you as you grow in the faith.

Once you wear out that inexpensive Bible, transfer the memory verses (to memorize) to a newer good Bible, and begin memorizing those verses.

😅I wished I had been recommended the above when I first started bcuz my first Bible was 95% highlighted the first couple reads thru it. It all looked important. But after a few more reads through, I wouldve seen which ones are actually best for highlighting for actually memorizing.
