How can I serve others at Church?

Q: I am a young born again Christian, new in the faith but would like ideas on how I can serve believers in the local congregstion.

A: That is wonderful! Praise God you have a heart to love one another and want to serve the brethren - in service to Christ.

Ways Youth can serve the brethren at Church

At church:

*Find areas you can help the older people, disabled and elderly with carrying things to their car, helping them to and from their seats. Being attentive to any with balance issues or leg problems.

>Some might have MS and cant get their leg working (because of the brain). If they or elderly sit near you be mindful so you can try to catch them if they lose strength and fall. Many do not like to feel disabled so go with best intentions, and where situations allow ask if they would like help. If they yell just take one for Jesus 😊🤗. Love anyway.

*Weekly, get a copy of the prayer lists From each Sunday school class and from the church bulletin. Pray over these this week.

*Hand out informational cards that present the top 10 answers to frequent questions via QR code.

>There are young people and adults who struggle with understanding why there is suffering in the world and even Biblical reliability. Help everyone and visitors by giving these out in youth group, at youth events, at Christian events, after worship service at the door (with decon/pastors approval). But you can also hand it out to the unsaved because the gospel is also shared there. ⭐

On Sunday/When church is open:

*Bring cheer to elderly at senior homes and convalescent places by kindly singing hymns to them and have a bit of fellowship.

>If any have no living family or no family who visit, consider collecting funds and raising funds (and hitting up the knitters in the church) to gift them with some new clothes, or PJ's (one cool set and one warm set; velcro or best shirt help). Maybe new comfy slippers or shoes. Include a large print gospel tract with the gift.

>See if any would like a usb audio Bible [with earbuds], or a large print Bible to read daily. Or cheap larger screen devices with wifi (put StudyBible.org and Grace Media app on there) and set font to large. Or get a cheap large touch screen tablet for the facility... that connects to a auto rotating daily Bible reading; and have it mounted somewhere even wheel chair bound folk can see. Have it scroll slowly and repeat during the day. If you can use Ai to design it, use modern easy English and allow it to be scrolled up and down. When you visit, clean the screen.

>If facility allows on Sunday gathering and you provide: Do a bible activity/craft theyre capable of; have 3 diff kinds for ability levels.

>Get their prayer requests. You can pray with them there and during the week.

*Help Teachers clean up after Sunday School

*Help take out trash from the kitchen after any gathering you are onsite for.

*If a teacher left something at home and there is time to go get it for them be a riable & trustworthy person of integrity and go to their home and get it; so they can continue setting up for class/event without stress.

- same for food that needs to be picked up at the store.

*Help carry the heavy stuff to and from cars for teachers, food events, potlucks, outreach, or even if your church packs up each Sunday service at a rental facility.

*Go to all the class-rooms and make sure no donuts, food or drinks mistakenly left out after class; so ants and bugs do not come in (& cost $$$ to pest control).

* Help out with VBS and AWANA programs at the church. Older folk usually listen to the kids weekly memory verses but you can find other areas to help.

During the Week:

If you have a car or an older believing sibling or youthmate who does...

>See in advance if the elderly or disabled need any help at home you can volunteer to do. Bring trusted others from youth group to help and maybe a parent for supervision or power tool usage needs.

- bring a photo of you and the Pastor in case they forget who you are.

 >See if you can pick up and deliver their groceries for them and carry into the kitchen.

 >See if they need anything put away in high places or if they need anything from high places for that week.

> see if they would like you to walk their dog around the little block. (Leave your school identification card with them while you are gone).

>For those with no family or no family nearby, Give them your phone number so they can schedule help with you when you have time or can send someone else.

>See if they need help with computer or phone related things; write or print out in big letters directions for things into a Directions binder.

>See if they need help addressing envelopes for this years Holidays & any cards they'll mail this year; print them all out and clip them into a recipe file box based on month - for easy peal & stick.

*Go with the Pastor to visit elderly home bound and hospitalized members.

*Offer to Uber or shuttle elderly and thode with no access to transportation on Easter and Christmas, byt also to the Christmas Concert if you have one or a nearby biblical church is doing one. (-dont forget to get tickets; hopefully it is free).

*Invite the lonely elderly people to Christmas meal at your home.

*For those with no family or none nearby go there with the Pastor or during a home visir and ask if they need help with any Bill issues or confusing paperwork; they need help making calls or understanding somethung - sonetimes they get a letter saying NOT A BILL but still think it is a bill and worry.

* Think of ways you could help them as you do your grandparents. And ask your grandparents what ways you could also help them (since they know that age group and their parents older needs too from experience).

*If there are pregnant women (single or not) in the church

-you can help take them to doctor appointments if they have no one.

-you can help the ladies in the church deliver premade frozen meals to the pregnant home

*If a member is injured and needs help:

-you can help take them to doctor appointments if they have no one.

-you can help the ladies in the church deliver premade frozen meals to their home, and put it in fridge and fridge,

--and maybe take the trash out too.

* Helping members with Grief Groceries

At events:

*Ask to be a prayer volunteer and a salvation counselor to help with those who come forward. You can share needGod.com, pray over them, and provide new believer resources too (like the below link). Or You can just hand out a below card to them.

>Design the card and put a large QR code on the back; link it here. And have them printed out. You can put your church website at the bottom so they can find you on Sunday.

More ideas to be added...

Places to avoid:

*Do not get involved in Nursery or as teacher assistants... you need to be in Sunday School for your age group growing in the Lord and faith, or in main worship service getting fed there and worshipping the Lord with the congregation. Do not get involved in sound booth either. Those places are all a distraction to keep you from focused learning and focused worshipping the Lord. Politely decline those offers. If need be explain your reasons and leave it be. 😊
