Intimacy music? *
Q: I'm planning a little unwind time with my husband I'm not a very new Christian but still growing. I know sexual sin is frowned upon but I'm married and I haven't found teachings on what can and can't happen during intimacy.
I have been trying not to listen to worldly music but tbh I used to turn on a little RnB slow jams as I got dressed and also while I'm with my husband... but now I'm lost on what to do. Are those music allowed, I dont want to sin and my husband feels it's okay. I want to make sure.
Also please provide any Scriptures or sermons that can help on this matter.
A: It is good to ask and along with Scriptures direction in general for the way a believer is to live but also a matter of conscience.
There are some secular music that mighttt be acceptable. You need to look at the lyrics as first importance. You are in a God designed and ordained marriage and that is where sex belongs. It is a gift and blessing from God. Just be cautious on the music, make sure it isnt encouraging fornication. It might be hard to find some. For others, find the r&b instrumental. You are both aware of those songs from the past, so instrumental might be ok. But dont use music a lot of the time, so it is "you both focused" and not focused on "the set up" because that could lead to doing things you shouldnt do. We are to be people who are holy and of self control, (not like the pagans).
In every day life unwinding or getting ready for work or whatever, we def should be listening to things that are God focused. The Bible on audio, Christian Hymns, Christian music with solid theology, Christian podcasts etc.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8
We should be filling our hearts and minds with godly things, not being swayed and tempted by the things of the world.
