📖 Where to start reading Bible
Read Genesis 1-11, Romans, then Gospel of John, Ephesians, Galatians, 1st John, & Colossians.
Then, read all the Gospels: Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John.
Romans has a deeper focus on the Gospel (What Jesus did, why he did it, and the result).
Ephesians helps you understand the discipline needed to develop into true children of God. (It emphasizes the connection between sound doctrine and right practice in the Christian life).
⭐️Here's resources for going through all those Bible books, and getting the most out of them.
Next, understand why there are 4 gospels.
Are there actually more Gospels?
How many books did Paul write?
After that....go read Paul's gospel, (read these, in this chronological order):
●Galatians
●1 and 2 Thessalonians
●1 and 2 Corinthians and Romans
●Ephesians, Philemon, Colossians, and Philippians (Paul’s 1st Roman imprisonment)
●1 Timothy and Titus
●2 Timothy (Paul’s 2nd Roman imprisonment)
And then Jude. It has 1 chapter and warns of false teachers. Other areas of this site dives in to point out Scriptures that talk about beware of false teachers, preachers and doctrines of demons. But for now Jude is enough.
You can jump to the Bible resource below from here, or follow next suggestions first...
●Then read the entire New Testament starting at Matthew through Revelation.
●Then read the Bible in chronological order. The order in which events happened in the Bible.
●After that, read the Bible cover to cover Genesis to Revelation again.
You should have a good basic grasp on Scripture by then. 😊
●After this.... You can read Gen to Revelation again one more time, but highlight key verses this time, using this list.
👉⭐️After that you can use a really good Bible resource to study Scripture. There are also fun reading plans there and focus in on certain types, like "30 days in the life of Jesus", or one like that.
================
Couple ways to add substance to your daily reading quiet time with God in the Word is to:
1. Journal as you read.
* You can do a very basic beginners journal such as book title, verses read, who is the section being addressed to, questions you had while reading that section, or questions you had when reading the story. >> For context you should read a few chapters before that and a few after that.
2. While reading that Book in Scripture, pair it with dramatized audio, or sermons that expound on it.
You can do so here and here StudyBible.org App which has addl faq info as you study a passage.
So example: this month you read and reread the Gospel of John, and also in a dedicated quiet time (not driving, not running errands, but at the table) listen through the John series of sermon teachings.
Read through John's Gospel & listen along here KJV or Dramatized, NASB95 ESV LSB
And free study thru John's Gospel (Youtube)
If you read Scripture along with audio it helps you not feel alone and brings a bit more to your time in the Word.
*Btw, If you have a hard time staying focused, a dramatized audio version is super helpful.
3. Go through interesting reading plans (first) before you bite off something like Horners lifetime reading plan 😂, or Jmac 30x plan. You will get a well rounded grasp of Scripture if you do it that way.✅️
There is a longer in depth plan...
💥Deep Dive Reading Plan - Long plan
I would suggest the when you read through you pair it with a sermon study series.
So that would mean read and reread the book in Scripture while you go thru the sermon series. Start in OT Gen to Rev. or do NT: John, Mark, Luke then Acts to Revelation.
But the Example: you would go through the "sermon series" on Mark and read & reread "the book of Mark" every day in quiet time. You would go thru a sermon or two day by day until you finish that book series. Then move to the next book.
* You will get the most out of it during a focused quiet time so dont listen to the sermon in the go buttttt you could relisten to the sermon on the go. Such as you read Mark 1 this am and watched Mark 1 sermon, and now relistening to that sermon on the way to work or school. You could listen to it again on the way home, but then when you get home watch another next sermon (or two) in Mark 1 and then reread Mark 1 at bedtime. So you get the most out of it.
I loved the John series and am now on the Mark series. Both can be found at gty yt playlists but the rest of the studies series book by book will be found/ searchable here.
* for listening on the go use gty.org as it takes less data than yt!
Notes:
* the sermon you watch at night you could relisten to it as you do things around the house so as like when you are on the go you get the good parts explained stuck in your long term memory. And are reminded of great points the pastor made.
So at night you are going through one sermon but "twice" like you did in the morning. And if you are shopping or running errands after you get home you could listen a third time.
-If you are willing to and are on auto pilot in that new habit schedule, where you do watch the sermon in a dedicated quiet time then it would be fine to: listen to that evening sermon if you go from work to store to home to a tv focused watch of that sermon. Because your mind will pick up pieces on the go and solidify it when you finally sit and focus on in a dedicated quiet viewing.
It will take a while to go through Scripture like this but it will be deep and well worth it. You will learn so much *and* store Scripture in your heart. ✝️
