Pastor lied to me

Q: How could this happen? I  thought my pastor was man of God. He always preached to put God first and talked of honor, respect and fellowship. I came to The Lord through his preaching. Now, I've found he’s been lying to me for a long time. When confronted with the truth.. his response is “leave me alone”. My heart is just ripped out of my chest. I hardly know what to do.

A:  Well people fail us, pastors are no different (if saved they can still fall off the path like we do).

The most loving thing is to initiate Matt 18 "church discipline". Bring the issue to a couple of decons in the church >>or mature believers and have them go with you to resolve this; together talk to the pastor. If he refuses to repent then bring it to the elders, and then if he doesnt repent bring it before the church by means of the next senior person, or a pastor who is over him. If he doesnt repent then, the church is called to vote and remove him from his posirion, disfelliwship him, and tresspass him, until he reoents and comes back to be restored to fellowship. Maybe as a congregant but idk if he should be a pasyor still unless he seriously repented before the person and congregation.

People do bad things. Latest stats: 63% of Preachers dont hold to a biblical worldview, many pastors are false cinverts just there fir a job. Only 37% of the pastors hold to a biblical worldview. 👉Those 37% are hard to find. Remember though we follow Christ, not a puplit shepherd.

If he is a man of God he would be happy you brought an issue or sin to him to repent, apologize, correct himself, and be restored to fellowship, because we are to love correction and it helps us grow in sanctification, prevents God blocking our prayers to Him and prevents our felowship with Him from being blocked, and helps us draw closer to Him and to each other.

If he is your pastor, you should consider leaving if he is not repentant. It screams other deeper problems.

As far as your conversion, God's Word doesnt return void, even if false converts or non Christians talk of God , it points to Him, and if they shared a tract or the gospel, the Gospel holds the power to salvation, not the messenger. Praise God that God saved you inspite of the pastor.

The sad thing is in many churches no one holds the pastor accountable and they revere him and think he is untouchable, instead of also holding him to church discipline and biblical integrity. And we are to hold him to a higher standard as Scripture says.

After you do what you can, if he remains unrepentant..... Even if you depart. Pray on it and let it be. Do not hold a grudge, dont be bitter, or gosippy when you leave. Just move on. God will be with you.

God be with you. 🙂
