is baptism required to forgive sins
Q: Do you have to get baptized to go to heaven? Is it bad to not want it to be a big deal i front of the whole church?
A: Things written in English do not always express the original language well. Translators provide Scripture in word for word or thought for thought, some in translation teams want to push a particular view such as infant baptism so sentences are worded a certian way, or immature uneducated pastors teach something from their view that Scripture doesnt say and that [God] the author didnt intend.
If we look at the original language.... Baptism "for" the remission of sins, such as in Acts 2:38, means "because of" or "as a result of". So, our baptism is a what we do as a result of the salvation we already possess.
Baptism is an visual outward expression of the inward transformation already done by God.
Baptism is simply a visual representation of what already happened to you (when you got saved). You are simply publicly showing the world what happened to you & that you align with Christ. It is the 1st act of obedience to God a believer does after getting saved.
It is an ordinance God instituted for believers, the other is the Lord's Supper, in rememberance of what happened. Both symbolize what has happened & that you align with Christ.
Baptism (at church or even the ocean) also gives you the opportunity to invite everyone you know so you can share your testimony - with the Gospel- so they too can be saved.
The church is a convenient place those folk can gather to watch as witnesses to your faith profession.
This can help and gives tips on sharing testimony & inviting unsaved.
Some churches require infant baptism Should I avoid protestant church denominations that teach it?
God bless.
